Wendell’s inc badges
+ visibility Project
As part of our yearly company project to improve our visibility and provide examples of our work to the public, I was asked to make several examples of our badges so that the company can take photos of them to use for digital and print advertising purposes.
The Process
Set The Spec Sheet for each type of badge
Spec sheets are our bible. Everyone in the company will see and use this sheet for every format that is created in our computer system.
Every spec sheet will always have the following information:
Material - Thickness / Color / Size
What fastener will be used - What corners are used
Personalization - Font / Size / Alignment / Case
Process - Digital / Engraved / Both
Any Pantone and/or CYMK colors formulas needed for the printer
Set the art files for each of the badges
Once the spec sheet is complete, each printed badge needs to be set in Illustrator as an .ai file and each engraved badge needs the art to be set up in the engraving program (Type3)
This art is sometimes provided by the customer, but in this case, I am fabricating companies so that Wendell’s is free to use these badges for advertising whenever needed.
All logos and text involved with the badge will needed to be away from the edges of the badge in order to ensure a good print if there is any minor shifting of the badge mount.
Any colors that run over the edges of the badge will also need a 1/8th inch bleed at minimum to make sure that the material of the badge is not visible on the edges.
Set the art files and badge variables in templates
All badges that need a digital imprint use in-design and in-design scripts to set each badge with it’s correct size, style and variables needed.
Here is where every name, title and and additional variable lines are set
any variables on the badge that remain static are placed as is on the template file.
Badges that are partly or completely engraved must be setup through our engraving software (Type3) in the same manner, with added variable lines
stress test templates
using desginated scripts
Once all parts of the template have been completed for the badge, the next step is to make sure that it works correctly.
We stress test each of our formats and templates with a printed or engraved proof before we start to process any orders made with any designated format.
Once the test is completed without errors, badges are printed, processed and shipped directly to the customer
